Underwater Scuba weddings are definitely on the unique side. If you wanted to get married underwater, where would you even start? Islandpreacha.com, that’s where!
Matthew Sweeting is the Island Preacha, a non-denominational pastor and licensed marriage officer in the Bahamas. He does all the normal stuff you’d expect from a pastor in the Bahamas including outdoor and church weddings. You can find his rates for that here.
But did we mention he also does underwater weddings?
You book your scuba trip through Stuart Cove’s by using the form on the Island Preacha website. From there, they’ll set everything up for your underwater wedding. You’ll arrive with a dive slate and that’s where the vows are placed.
Pretty neat stuff.
You can add on photography and videography packages through Matthew. And let’s be honest, no one is going to get married underwater without getting some evidence to go along with it.
If you’re the type that just can’t seem to get excited about the traditional wedding and would rather have a good story to tell instead, this seems like the best extreme destination wedding that we’ve come across. It doesn’t get much better for the thrill seeking couple than having a shark show up for your wedding pictures.
Matthew was kind enough to send us some photos as well, so we’ve included them below:
If you’re going to say “I do” after jumping out of a plane, you might as well do it in Las Vegas. In her article in Westjet’s up! Magazine, Dena Braun turned us on to Vegas Extreme Skydiving who perform skydiving weddings.
You can learn more about their wedding packages here, but here’s our executive summary:
They offer three different options for your skydiving wedding. The first option has your wedding occurring before the jump. After the ceremony the bride and groom go up in the plane and the guests are escorted to the landing zone.
The second option has the bride and groom jumping together and the ceremony is held at the landing zone after the jump is complete. The third option is the most extreme. Their “Skydiving Preacher” marries the couple during the plane ride up.
Wedding packages start at $1299 and include a dvd of the experience, flowers, and champagne. You can also add high quality photography for an additional cost.
So upon further review, it doesn’t seem like you can get married in mid air but you can get pretty close. But who knows, maybe we’re wrong. Does anybody know of anyone that does weddings in mid air?
Looking for an extreme wedding location? Dena Braun tipped us off to Ancient Hawaiian Weddings in her article in the January 2009 edition of West Jet’s up! Magazine. Ancient Hawaiian Weddings offers a number of different wedding packages, one of which takes place on Mount Haleakala at 10,023 feet above sea level.
Dena writes that Mount Haleakala is “the world’s highest place to legally wed”. It’s also an active volcano (although it hasn’t erupted since 1790).
The only information we could find was at http://www.hawaiileihochzeit.com/locationsENG.html near the bottom of the page. The site says that it’s a 2 hour drive up to the summit where you’ll find a volcano crater that is 3,000 feet deep, 7.5 miles long, and 2.5 miles wide.
In the up! Article, Dena states that packages start at US$2000. But even though it’s a Hawaiian wedding, keep in mind that the weather at 10,000 feet is a little chilly – often around 50 degrees Fahrenheit (that’s about 10 degrees celcius) – so this is definitely a summer wedding destination!
A big thank you to Marie-Eve Laganière from the Hotel de Glace who got back to me shortly after posting about the unique destination wedding possibilities at the Hotel de Glace just outside of Quebec City.
Marie-Eve Laganière is with the hotel and sent us a link to a wedding video that was shot at the hotel. The video is in french, but the couple in the video are from England and speak english throughout the video so it’s fairly easy to follow along. You can watch the video here at Canoe.ca.
The interesting part about the wedding shown on the video is that I don’t think they had any guests, it was just the two fo them. If that sounds like your type of wedding, then give it a watch because it sounds like they had a very fun week planned. They were going dog sledding, staying at the Hotel de Glace, and then heading to Mt Tremblant for a week of skiing.
At the end of the video you’ll also get to see the happy couple toasting with the ice goblets they provide. Really neat stuff and truly unique.
Marie-Eve Laganière also gave us access to some of the photographs of the Hotel de Glace, which we have below:
Last week we jetted off to Mexico to enjoy some sun and R&R, and on the plane we found an interesting article by Dena Braun in the January 2009 edition of West Jet’s up! magazine called Nuptials for Daredevils. I couldn’t find the article online to link to, so my apologies for that.
The article provides four locations for extreme destination weddings, one for each season. We thought we’d take Dena’s suggestions and find out a bit more about each idea in a series of posts.

The photographer’s website www.xdachez.com has a lot of good pictures to give you an idea of what your wedding might be like at the Hotel de Glace. You also have the option to have your reception at the Hotel de Glace as well, but we couldn’t find any pricing on their website for that.
One interesting thing that Dena Braun includes in her article is that if you’re worried about being cold in your dress you can opt for warmer wedding attire from Corinne Markey’s Marie-Ange collection. Check out the site, they’ve got some neat stuff.
Below is a video tour of the Hotel de Glace shot by Snowtrails TV. It’s by no means wedding related, but it’s the best video we could find on the Hotel de Glace that we could embed here.
CrunchGear just posted a very intriguing article about a couple in Spain who had their wedding crashed by a member of the Spanish General Society of Authors and Editors. This “spy” recorded the wedding and the proceeded to sue the couple for an unauthorized use of a song.
The couple counter-sued for invasion of privacy and won.
Over the past few months, we’ve been in contact with Inez Sanche of Almost Heaven Wedding Cakes while helping her get started with her own website. We built the beginnings of the site for her using our online website builder and editor and have just recently turned it over to her to make her own edits.
In addition to our online wedding favour store, we also do some web design in Regina, which is how Inez got in touch with us. Once we started talking a little bit, we told her about our wedding site and thought our visitors would really appreciate getting to see some of the great wedding cakes she makes.
While we were building the site we were blown away at the detail in her wedding cakes. So if you’re getting married in the Saskatoon area and are looking for a unique wedding cake, you should definitely check out Almost Heaven Wedding Cakes.
Below is a short video showcasing a few of her past cake designs:

As I’m sitting here in my office recording this video the first snowflakes are falling on the ground.Well, the first snowflakes that will probably stick around for more than a few days anyway. And with that, it means that the winter season is upon us, so I thought it would be a good time to highlight a few of the cool winter themed wedding favours and decorations we have in the wedding favour store at SkWeddingWebsite.com.
Katlyn and I had a look through the catalogue and picked out three of our favourite wedding favours from the winter theme section, all of which can be found at www.SkWeddingWebsite.com/WinterWeddingFavours.html.
The first one is called the “Snow Flurry” Flocked Glass Ornament Place Card/Photo Holder and it comes in sets of 6.These are little Christmas ornaments like you’d hang on the tree, except these ones are designed to sit on the tables at your reception and hold either a place card or a photo. They’re just a really cool way to give your winter wedding reception an extra little touch.
The next favour we have to feature is called the “Icing on the Cake” Winter Wedding-Cake Candle and they come in sets of 4.This is a really neat little candle that is designed to look like a little 2 ½” high wedding cake with snowflake designs. Each one comes in a winter-themed gift box and rests on a porcelain platter. These are perfect to give away to your guests or just to use on the table for decoration.
And the final winter wedding favour we’ll look at in this video is the “Embossed Elegance” Snowflake Favour Box that comes in sets of 24.This is a perfect way to package up some candy, mints, chocolate, or whatever else you have in mind to give away to your guests as a token of your thanks. They’re incredibly easy to put together and would be a perfect addition to any wedding table.
To view these winter wedding favours and more, you can visit SkWeddingWebsite.com and follow the links through to our winter wedding favours section, or you can go directly to www.SkWeddingWebsite.com/winterweddingfavours.html.And if you have any questions, just send us an email to questions @ skweddingwebsite.com or leave a comment on the blog.
Here’s a fun website we stumbled upon in our travels. If you’re getting at all stressed about your wedding plans, or start taking things just a bit too seriously, just take a visit over to TackyWeddings.com. You’ll soon realize that everything could be worse…oh so much worse.
The Wedding Bee grouped some of the best photos from the site in one of their posts yesterday. Have a look, it’s good for a laugh or two.
