Friend’s of ours, Jeff and Christine, are finalists in the Global Wedding Wish competition and we wanted to do our part to help spread the word about all the great things they are doing as part of their “paying it forward” campaign.  The idea of the contest (to the best of our knowledge) is to creatively promote the contest and the sponsors of the contest, with the winners ultimately winning a free wedding!  Jeff & Christine are up against three other couples in the competition.

What makes Jeff and Christine’s entry a little bit different is all in their approach.  They are going out in the community and doing nice things for complete strangers, with hopes that everyone will pay it forward.  To date they have been doing things like visiting the sponsor’s stores and handing out cookies, plugging expried parking meters, and buying donuts for random people behind them in the Tim Horton’s drive-thru.

As part of that campaign, they are also holding a Pizza/Pasta Fundraiser on Friday, March 6th from 6-9 pm at 4Seasons.  Tickets are $15 and are available by calling Christine (581-7399) or Jeff (535-9901).

And the best part is that the proceeds from the event will be donated to the Chris Knox Foundation.  For those of you that don’t know, Chris Knox was a young man that captured the hearts of Saskatchewan with his story during the Rider’s run to the 2007 Grey Cup.  Chris was battling cancer, but that didn’t affect his love for the Riders.  The team was inspired by his story and after one game (I believe it was the big labour day win where Kerry Joseph ran in a touchdown in the last moments of the game) the team invited Chris and his family into the dressing room and gave him the game ball.

When the Rider’s made it to the Grey Cup, there was a push from the local community to get Chris to the Grey Cup along with a number of other deserving young people suffering through terrible illnesses.  Coincidentally (or maybe not), one of the big supporters of the cause was the owner of the 4Seasons, George Yannitsos (the host of Jeff and Christine’s pizza/pasta fundraiser) who stepped up along with others from the community to make the trip possible.

Chris has since passed, but his legacy lives on through the Chris Knox Foundation.  The charity helps make dreams come true for young people (under 30) battling cancer, are in remission, or are receiving palliative care by helping them to attend sporting, fine arts, and cultural events.

We’re going to do our best to be at the fundraiser on March 6th and we hope you do as well.

And remember, pay it forward!
